I haven't really done an "Inspiration" blog post before, but this just felt kind of necessary. Legendary animator Glen Keane, one of my biggest inspirations (and an inspiration for many, many artists), is leaving Disney Animation after 38 years. For me, anyway, it officially marks the end of an era that seemed to be coming to a close when Disney turned away from 2D animation in 2004, and that's a very sad thing. I just hope that wherever he goes after this he'll continue to contribute to the world of animation.
I thought I'd post a few of his incredible drawings here, so when I scroll through my blog I'll see them and remember the power that a few pencil strokes can have. Sometimes we need to be reminded of the magic of drawing.
So this cool guy named Matt contacted me about commissioning some illustrations for a Young Adult novel he's writing. The story is pretty damn cool-- steampunk Victorian Ireland. I mean seriously, how cool is that? These are some quick sketches I did of the two main characters. I'm going to be doing whole character sheets for them, which I'll post as soon as I'm done!
I also have to apply for some things, work on my website, draw mouths to put on a some shoes for a stop motion animation, color the Momotaro comic, finish an essay, and negotiate a children's book job. This Spring Break isn't going to be much of a break, but that's okay! It's a good kind of busy :)
