Figure Studies 2.28.13

More figures. Need to be better (and quicker) at these.
Got my reference photos from here... lots of fun, interesting poses.

Weekend Stuff

Lately I can feel I've been slipping into some bad drawing habits, and most of that comes from not drawing enough from life. So I've challenged myself to do some life drawing every day, even if it's from photos. Today I did faces. A while ago I got this book of expressions, and it was the perfect reference. I was a bit rusty, but started to feel better as I got warmed up.
I watched Skyfall on Friday night, and I loved it. I think it might be the best of the franchise (Granted, I've never been a huge fan of the old James Bond stuff, and Daniel Craig is really the first Bond I've liked.) I drew this after watching it. It was late and I was tired, and so the likeness isn't great and I'm not entirely happy with it, but it's good enough for the blog.
And because I can't have a post without flashing my nerd cred, here's a drawing I did this weekend of Saint Walker from Green Lantern. I know almost nothing about the Green Lantern universe, other than what I've picked up from the animated series. But this character is cool, and I felt like drawing him. I was trying to experiment with some extreme foreshortening... not sure how happy I am with it. If you can't tell, I've been feeling a little bit "I suck at art" lately.

I also drew Jennifer Lawrence falling on her face.

Stuff 2.21.13

I colored that drawing I did a while ago of Stewart and Colbert.

This is the best... same guys, drawn by me at age 15.

One of my favorite authors, Neil Gaiman, is writing 12 short stories for each month based on ideas his fans tweeted to him, and now they want people to illustrate them. I read through the stories for inspiration... I may or may not submit any to the project (depends on if I like how they turn out), but I have a few more illustrations in mind and thought they might be fun to do.

Bear Scare

Another piece inspired by my visit to the Natural History Museum a few weeks ago. I loved the way that the exhibits were all lit up in a dark room, and the people were silhouetted against them.

Silver Lining

I went for a run today, and for some reason I was reminded of this scene from Silver Linings Playbook. So obviously I drew it.

Chief and Cortana

A little Halo 4 fanart on a Sunday afternoon. If only my 14 year old self could see this drawing... she would freak out! I used to try to draw Halo stuff all the time back then, and I really struggled with it. I've always felt out of comfort zone drawing muscle-tastic men and super technical mechanical stuff, and Master Chief is definitely both of those things. But I feel like I'm starting to get into a really comfortable way of working/coloring now... I have a process! Woo.

Sketchdump 2.9.13

I drew these the other night while watching the Daily Show and Colbert Report. I'm going to a Colbert taping in March, I'm so excited!

Doodled these last night. Razer from Green Lantern (which Cartoon Network just cancelled... laaame), and Cortana from Halo, (being an AI, you'd think she would be able to program herself some clothes).

Stuff 2.7.13

Last week my friend Eleanor asked me to do some drawings of her little bunny Pipkin, who passed away recently. I miss seeing his photos on Instagram, and was so happy to draw him for her.

Random stuff! Today I was in a Halo mood and quickly doodled this comp of Master Chief and Cortana. That game and I go way back! I did a bunch of Halo fanart when I was like 13 or 14 and it would be fun to do a nice Halo piece sometime.

And here are the next two pieces for YA Magazine:

Dinosaurs

I went down to the city this past weekend to visit my brother and see the Rise of the Guardians exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image. I also got to see my illustrator friend Morgan who I haven't seen since graduation, which was really fun!

My brother, his girlfriend and I went to the Museum of Natural History, which I haven't been to in years. I especially loved the dinosaurs, and really wanted to draw some. They're basically just gigantic, terrifying birds.

Tyrannosaurus

 Ankylosaurus

 Stegosaurus

 Diplodocus

Velociraptor
