So this past week I started my new internship at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. I'm working on illustrations for their BirdSleuth K-12 education program and their NestCams program. They're both two very different projects, and should be fun.
In the meantime, I'm still trying to do some freelance. This is a commission of an original character a fan created for the universe of the show
Firefly. This was a fun commission because I got to design the character too.

This is incredible, as always. I love your work.
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteThis looks Cool! I love your work! Does the girl have a walking disorder which is why she's holding a cane? Not to offend you, but I'm not a Firefly fan or a Buffy Vampire fan because I don't like vampire movies (the only Joss Whedon movie I like is The Avengers) so I don't have your Joss Whedon fandom. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a fanmade character (she was never in the show) so I don't exactly know her backstory, but the girl who came up with her told me that her leg was injured, so she has to walk with a cane.
DeleteCaptain Bet Cooper has a war injury (shrapnel in the hip) that limits her mobility, so she uses a cane. She's captain of the Jin Dui, a Firefly vessel in our little fannish sandbox project. Each writer or artist involved creates a character on the ship's crew, and we're seeing what adventures we can share through art & fic we create about them.
DeleteSorry you're not a Firefly fan or much of a Joss Whedon fan -- if you're willing to give him another try, you should check out his recent version of "Much Ado About Nothing", it's absolutely delightful!
Thank you so much! You were a delight to work with for this commission, and wow -- you were so fast, too! And you gave me exactly what I wanted, when I wasn't even able to realize verbalize it. Thank you, thank you!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you like how your character turned out! She was so much fun to draw :)
