Colbert

Yesterday I got to go to a taping of The Colbert Report! I've been watching the show regularly since it started in 2005, and it was so surreal to actually get to see Stephen perform in person. My brother and I were lucky enough to be told to sit in the front row, which was crazy! I honestly don't think our seats could've been better. We were no more than 15 feet from the desk, and our view wasn't blocked by cameras. The thing that shocked us the most was the size of the studio. It's super small! On TV it looks so big, but it's not at all in reality. The image below is from the broadcast, and it really distorts the distance between the crowd and the desk (also, my brother and I are both in that image!). Anyway, it was an amazing experience. Stephen is incredibly hilarious and energetic. Even in the breaks between segments he was being silly. I'm still buzzing from the whole thing... yesterday after we left I felt like my body was filled with electricity! Now I just have to go see The Daily Show... :)

At the end of the show Stephen took a video of us on his iPhone (he needed his phone for the interview-- I'm assuming he normally doesn't have it on him during a taping). He couldn't figure out how to post it to Twitter, but told us he would do it. A few days went by and I was worried he'd forgotten, but today he posted it! Yay!

Half-Life 2

I'm in such a video game mood lately! I just got this game called Limbo. It has this sort of minimalist, creepy style, and it's all in black and white silhouettes. Very, very cool. Anyway, that has nothing to do with the picture below.  I drew Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance from Half-Life 2.

And just for fun, here's a drawing I did of Alyx back in 2005... haaaaaha.

Stuff 3.17.13

The past few months I've been babysitting my cousins. They've got such cartoonish personalities, so...

I always forget to post these! The next 2 pieces for Young Adult Magazine.

"The Girl in the Hat" series

"At the Dinner Table" series

The Green Lantern animated series I've been enjoying on my Saturday mornings had its final episode this past weekend. It's funny... I never thought I would enjoy the show so much. What's especially unfortunate is that Cartoon Network dropped the show not for lack of ratings, but because Green Lantern toy sales were not good. Why? Because the movie was awful. So basically, it's Ryan Reynolds' fault. Or whoever wrote that horrible script. It's a bummer. My favorite character from the show was created specifically for the series and doesn't exist in any Green Lantern comics, so... I guess we may never know what happens to him. But we do know that all will be well, and that's something.

EDIT: I just drew this and didn't want to make a new post for it. The Youtube series The Brain Scoop asked for fanart of their creepy raccoon, in the hopes of picking a design for a t-shirt. I whipped this up in half an hour because why not?
Soon...

Pups

This was an unplanned drawing I did a few nights ago while watching Spirited Away (I'm on a bit of a Miyazaki kick right now). It's one of those things where you're doodling and then suddenly have you an illustration. I'm not sure how I feel about the colors here. I'm sick and so I don't really have my usual level of concentration... haha.

Ashitaka and Yakul

You know that movie you have that you've watched a few too many times? That's Princess Mononoke for me. It's my favorite movie. I watched it for the millionth time last night while drawing something for my portfolio. After I finished that, this happened. I want a red elk, please.

Purple Dragon

I did an illustration back in my sophomore year of these two (link), and I've always thought this little purple dragon/cat/alien thing was cute. I feel like his name should be Louis. I think their adventures would make a fun children's book.

Ahsoka Tano

Today is Saturday, meaning it's the best day of the week! Mostly because it's the weekend, but also because of Saturday morning cartoons! By far the most beautiful looking animated series on TV right now is Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The models, lighting, and animation are miles above the rest (I would assume because it's Star Wars and must sell tons of toys, and George Lucas has more money than he knows what to do with). It's well made, has decent writing, and is genuinely exciting. Diggin' it.
