Buffy (and other stuff)

I've been rewatching Buffy while working because it's my favorite show of all time. Yup.

And here's some of the stuff I've been working on over the past few weeks:

Girl in the Hat series #12 for YA Magazine.

Private Commission

Logo design for fitness business

Another productive day, another bird lady.  This one is suposed to be a Yellow Warbler.

Bird Lady #1

Sooo, I've been getting into birding lately because it's super addicting. I thought it would be fun to draw character versions of some of my favorite birds. I used this as a 'reward' between projects (I'm swamped with freelance work this week, which is awesome but stressful!), so after I make some good progress on work I get to draw one of these for half an hour. It seems to be a good method-- I had a super productive day and I drew a whole bird lady! This one is the Gray Catbird.

Figure Studies Sketchbook

I have a Moleskine sketchbook that I use just for figures studies. Usually I use reference photos from the internet because I don't have access to models. I've been trying to do a few every day, but obviously that doesn't always happen. They're quick sketches-- just a minute or two-- and as you'll see by my frustrated "I can't draw" scribbles, I usually feel like they're awful as I'm drawing them. They are never as bad as I originally think, but I do want to get much better at this... which is why I have the sketchbook! Here are a few pages.

Character Turnaround

I've been wanting to do a character turnaround for a long time, because I feel like I've always struggled with consistency and that's what a turnaround is all about. I'm happy with how this turned out! I sort of surprised myself. This is an original character... she's been in my head for years and has popped up on this blog many times. I figured she'd be a good character to start with, as I've got her design pretty much nailed down. Now I want to do more of these! Yay.

Spireseeker - Front Cover

A little while ago I posted some sketches I had done for the novel Spireseeker by E.D.E Bell. This is the finished front cover for the book! It's a lot different than the type of work I normally do, but it was a fun challenge and I'm happy with how it turned out. The author is happy too, which is even better!
