Sketch Dailies
There's this fun twitter account I just discovered called @sketch_dailies. Every day they list a different illustration prompt, and throughout the day they share the responses they get. I first noticed it when centaurs kept popping up all over my twitter and tumblr feed as many of the artists I follow were participating. It's way too much fun to pass up. Today's prompt was Jessica Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Third Wheel
Here are my next two illustrations for YA Magazine. We've started doing two illustrations a month that are sort of a sequence of events. This one features characters from Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Twilight.
And here's something I doodled last night during the State of the Union address, then colored this afternoon. It's been frigidly cold lately, and I blame it on cold-themed supervillains. Obviously, I had to implement Rule 63 for this, because... fun.

Dashing
Quick update! I was in the city for most of last week. I braved the cold and foot of snow to go see Patrick Stewart and Ian MacKellen in a play called No Man's Land. It was so surreal to see those two acting right in front of me. I even managed to get autographs from them afterwards, which was a little bit crazy. Honestly, it feels pretty great to get a smile out of Captain Picard and Gandalf. Billy Crudup was also in the play, and I completely forgot that he was the voice of Ashitaka in the English dub of Princess Mononoke or I would have geeked out on him when he came by for autographs. In any case, watching talented artists doing what they love is the best.
In other news, here's a completely unrelated doodle. Some 1940s gal!

Doodle Break
I've been working on my taxes all morning (bleh!) and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with all the things that need to be done soon, so I did a quick fun doodle to de-stress.
Now back to work!
Update: Gail Simone, the current writer of Batgirl, shared this on her tumblr. Which is kinda neat :)

Batnap
Haven't updated in a week! Here's a doodle. Even when it's fan art, I end up drawing kids and animals. Damian Wayne and his dog Titus.
And below is the most recent piece I did for Young Adult Magazine. This time they wanted a bunch of characters from ABC Family shows. It was challenging because these kind of shows tend to have actors who are stereotypically attractive, and thus have very similar (and nearly flawless) features. With caricatures, the trick is finding the unique thing about a person's face and exaggerating it. When a face doesn't have anything about it that's particularly distinguishing, drawing a caricature becomes difficult. In the end I think I did okay, and it was a good challenge.
This client is very specific about which characters to use and what they are doing/how they are interacting. That's totally fine with me, particularly for pieces like this where I don't watch the shows and have no idea what the characters are like.
